Pockets For Community
Site of Chester is a land rich in biodiversity, set amidst farmlands, right at a road intersection and with a beautiful, challenging terrain of the site.

Site Analysis
To start with, I began by sketching and exploring the site through a series of quick conceptual studies. From the site analysis, eight potential zones were identified based on factors such as topography, accessibility, and natural features, each representing a different spatial opportunity. These zones then became the foundation for iterative master-planning explorations, testing various configurations and relationships between built and open spaces to arrive at the most responsive design solution.

Site Development
Units were amalgamated and combined to a building that responds to the site and arranged in a way that it is oriented on the East–West direction, with the longer sides along that axis. Central community spaces were placed in a way that the flat terrain could be taken advantage of. Circulation was placed along the contours to make it easier to navigate, and the pockets become community spaces, creating multi-level community engagements and spaces for interaction. The design enhances connectivity between built and open areas, allowing natural ventilation and daylight to flow through. Overall, the building adapts seamlessly to the landscape while fostering a strong sense of collective living

Development Plan
This diagram visualise placement of a unit on a terrain.

The program comprised eight residential apartments, each containing four units that accommodate four families. The form of each unit was designed so that the stacked volumes follow the site’s contours, minimizing excavation and allowing the building to merge seamlessly with the terrain. The space created beneath these stacked units serves as a “dirty” common area shared by the entire apartment, maintaining the conceptual distinction between the clean house - dirty house established intact from research.
